Information on traveling to Groningen
Directions to Groningen from the airport Schiphol
Amsterdam
Trains leave directly from the Amsterdam airport (Schiphol)
for Groningen every hour (currently at 23 minutes past the hour, but check the
posted schedule). Buy a one-way ticket to GRONINGEN. Because these
trains are divided in ZWOLLE, with half of the train going to LEEUWARDEN, be
sure to get into (or move to) the section going to Groningen. With your
ticket reading Groningen, the conductor will help you, should you end up in
the wrong section. For the more adventurous it is also possible to take
the train headed for ENSCHEDE, leaving at 53 minutes past the hour, and then
change trains (by walking straight across the platform) in AMERSFOORT, taking
care to get in the Groningen portion (the front section) of the train you
board there.
Train taxi. Although
the conference site and hotel is not difficult
to find, using the so-called train taxi is the easiest and cheapest way to
arrive at your destination. Taxi's (cabs) are expensive in the Netherlands;
train taxis have a fixed price of about 4 Euro, the only drawback is that it
sometimes need to wait longer before getting a train taxi. The ticket for a
train taxi should be bought in advance at the rail way ticket office or ticket
machine at the railway station.
The
MEERWOLD, the site of the conference,
is a seven minutes' car drive from the Groningen central station, where the train
terminates. Coming out of the station, regular taxis are available in
front of the station, train taxi's can be found going to the left coming out of the railway
station. For transportation from and to the city centre a small van will be
available at the congress venue and at a specified location in the city centre
